Transformer: Storage & treatment of oil

Challenge:
During the planned maintenance of a transformer at a power plant, a temporary solution was required to contain and treat  transformer oil. The maintenance and treatment of the oil needed to be executed simultaneously.

Solution:
BakerCorp engineered an integrated solution to contain, transfer and treat the transformer oil:

  • A Double Wall 30 m³ Lined Tank was used to store the oil.
  • An Air Operated Diaphragm Pump (AOD) was installed to transfer the oil from the transformer into the storage tank and back again. For recirculation and treatment of the oil, a second AOD was integrated within the design.
  • As the oil from transformers is usually contaminated with small solids, a Bag Filter System was also used during the removal, recirculation and refilling of the oil to filter out these particles.

Benefits:
Thanks to BakerCorp's solution, the oil could be stored in a safe and environmentally responsible way due to the tank’s double-wall feature.
As our solution provided containment, transfer and treatment of the oil, the customer could rely entirely on a single-source partner.
The lifetime of the oil was extended by the removal of the contaminants, resulting in considerable cost savings for the customer.
